It’s been seven years since I first took a used driver head from a rubbish bin and vowed to turn it into part of the longest hitting driver in history. I was in Mesquite Nevada at the time, and the venue was the World Longdrive Golf Championships. The driver I built (in my hotel room) was the one I built for 46 year old American George Slupski who was competing in the senior division of the championships. Of course it’s the driver he used to not only win the world title but also break the seniors’ championship record with a drive of 405 yards in neutral weather conditions. So, a few weeks ago, I couldn’t resist lifting a second head from a rubbish bin at my local driving range, removing its broken shaft and completely re-conditioning it. And then rebuilding it using the world’s longest driving shaft – the ‘T3.’ The shaft, grip, and ferrule are brand new. And incidentally, the shaft comprises £180. of the fixed (no offers please) asking price.Of course this time I’m not offering a 48" / 6 degree driver with a 'T3' XXX shaft, but rather a driver for someone who normally drives say 200-230 yards and would like to drive at least 30 yards longer. THIS DRIVER (DEPICTING SNOW FALLING ONTO OTHER COMPETITORS’ BLOOD) IS GUARANTEED TO BE THE LONGEST HITTING DRIVER IN THE WORLD IN ITS CLASS. Head: 10.5d. (0.350”) Non-conforming, but conforming for almost all amateur comps. – used / re-conditioned. Non-conforming heads may be used in every handicap competition unless the organiser rules otherwise in advance of the competition commencing. To so rule is extremely unusual.R.& A. Direction:‘The List of Conforming Driver Heads is only recommended for use as a Condition of Competition by Committees in charge of competitions restricted to highly skilled players (including top amateur events).’ Face measurements – as new. Original paint coat sanded; three enamel coats added; plus 2 lacquer coats. Paint not as hard as original factory oven baked, so unsuitable for demolishing golf ranges. Logos double coated with ‘Golf Irons U.K.’ golf club paint. This head is immensely forgiving and obviously returns more energy than any 830 head, and so drives further. Head Re-finish: ‘PlastiKote Bright Red 21107’ and motor vehicle spray wheel lacquer. Head Cover: None.Shaft: Conforming – new. 0.335” tip / 0.610” butt. A seven part, spine aligned, shaft which returns 14% more energy than ALL the world’s best tubular shafts. The spine alignment process has re-located the shaft’s logo from top centre position. Grip: New conforming, standard size, white with red trim, 51 grammes Iomic X-Evolution. Swing Weight: D3.32Length: 45.50”End Result: An absolute beast of a driver for a slow swinger. Recommended Swing Speed: Ideally the user of this driver will have a swing speed of between 60 m.p.h. and 85 m.p.h. NOT MORE. Any driver head having a coefficient of restitution of 0.860 (instead of the usual 0.830) has a thinner than normal face. Such enables a slow swinger to driver further due to its increased face springiness. However, a very fast swinger may secure absolutely no advantage and could potentially damage the head.
