So here we have a set that was slated to be, finally, the replacement to my almost worn out Miura Tournament Blades. The Maltby MMB-17 Black in a 4-GW makeup, with Arthur Extreme Engineering Xcaliber Tour X shafts at 83g, tuned to a 6.1 frequency (Stiff +). These babies are absolutely sick! Forged from 8620 steel, they feel like butter, and that is no joke! They're not as soft as a 1020 or 1025, but honestly, you can't really tell. They feel great! My "holy grail" for feel is one of either the Mizuno MP32, Miura 1957 Baby Blade or the KZG forged ZO. This doesn't feel too far off from those clubs. They're smooth as all get out. This head and shaft combination really works well together. Flight is a penetrating Mid-Launch, with great velocity. So, why am I not keeping them, you ask? Well, quite simply, they're too damn long. I want to hit my 7 iron 165-170 tops. With these, well, they're almost a club and a half longer..... I'm hitting my 7 iron 185-190 consistently - with standard lofts - and that, for me, is problematic. Playing at that yardage creates some weird gapping issues for me low in the set. So, my quest continues to find the right replacement. And, these will go to some lucky person. If you're asking yourself about the shafts, let me just tell you, they're amazing! Arthur Extreme Shafts was founded by Robin Arthur, who's literally a savant of shaft design, much like Ralph Maltby with club design. Anyway, he's got loads of shaft design and engineering under his belt, and had his hands on the design of many of the top shafts on the market currently from other makers. They're top notch, without question. I have tried all the popular graphite shafts, like Recoils, Ozik's, Graphite Design's, Aerotechs, and so on, and wasn't overly impressed with any of them. Then I had a set of Paderson shafts in a set of KZG's a while back, and those things were, at that time, the best I'd ever felt and it wasn't even close.... Well, that's changed, because these shafts are ridiculously good. Smoothest, easiest to control, most penetrating flight graphite shafts I've ever played. Yes, that's woven titanium fibers encasing the graphite, making for an unreal feel. Look at the pics closely. They're legit. Golf works was selling them for $40 per shaft. And, this set was well over $300 in shafts alone. If you're looking for a stellar shaft that compliments the head properly, and with the right feel and flight, then look no further. This is your set!! As stated above, these are basically $320 in just the shafts, factor in the heads ($290 at Golfworks right now and backordered), shaft puring ($140), and grips as well as assembly, you'll see this was a $750+ set. And honestly, worth every dime. Refer to the pics, and you can see how gently used they were. Literally about 50 shots total, no hosel rockets or toe jams. Just clean contact, in or near the middle. I'm a plus golfer and take care of my clubs. Because I wasn't fully committed to these, I hit off of mats, to make sure there was no sole damage in the event of selling them. Anyway, you can't get these shafts anymore, and that's huge. And, they're pured! The heads are backordered currently, and it's rumored they're increasing in price as these were a limited edition thing through Golfworks. But, if you want to know more about them, just check out golfworks. So, now is the time to get them, at slightly less than new, from me! I paid about $750 (just north of that actually, AND used a coupon) for this set. I'll let them go here on eBay for $675, and that number is firm. If these sticks said Titleist, Miura or whatever, they'd sell for $1500+. These are an absolute steal at that number. If they weren't so long I wouldn't be selling, they'd be in the bag. Check my feedback, I do it right and have 100% positive remarks and always ship my sticks insured. So, buy with confidence! Let me know if you've got any questions!
