The company started making its own graphite shafts in 1978 and went on to embrace titanium, composite materials and computer-assisted design. Each Honma club features its own shaft star rating. The top-of-the-line shafts (5Star, 4Star, & 3Star) were produced by the senior craftsman and the remaining shafts were produced by their apprentices. The differences in materials used are relatively little. When compared to the competition, all Honma shafts are constructed of superior grade materials.
