FIRST GOLF BOOK WRITTEN BY A PROFESSIONAL GOLFER
THE GAME OF GOLF by William Park, Jun.
Champion Golfer, 1887-89.
First edition, "Fourth Impression," of the first golf book written by a professional golfer. First published in 1896.
Original pictorial cloth (covers measure 8 by 5.5 inches), pp. xii, 277, illustrated throughout (in black-and-white).
Ex-lending library (from the Squirrel Island, Maine, summer resort colony off the coast of Boothbay Harbor). Small paper label on lower spine, attractive (period) pictorial bookplate on front pastedown, few rubberstamps, lending library pocket & slip on rear endpapers. Very good condition, with light wear, fading, soiling on spine. Scattered foxing to text, covers bumped at corners. The binding is tight and square-- an attractive example of this important 19th century golf book-- the first golf book written by a professional golfer.
