SUPER RARE AND ALL ORIGINAL!This is Ben Hogan's FIRST and by far his rarest Equalizer wedge. It is the 1955 Precision Equalizer. Though the Ben Hogan Company was incorporated in December, 1953, it's first irons were not sold until 1955. The 1955 Precision irons are the famous "long hosel" model and the standard set was 2-9 irons with no wedge. Almost all 1955 sets that contain an Equalizer actually have a 1956 model rather than the 1955. The 1955 Precision Equalizer can easily be distinguished from the 1956 by comparing the soles and the hosels of the two models. In the last two photos I've shown both a 1955 model and a 1956 model so you can compare the two for both the sole width and the length of the hosels. The 1955 model is the one with the narrow sole and the long hosel.
You're probably not going to see another 1955 Hogan Precision Equalizer in any condition but, this club is all original with the Hogan leather grip, the True Temper Rocket shaft band, all color rings and ferrule. The chrome shows the thinning typical of 1950's Hogan irons. The grooves and the stampings on the sole are in good condition as is the steel itself. The rubber plug at the end of the grip is in poor condition and you might want to replace it.
