On offer from my collection is a  Scottsdale A1 Putter. The 1A Scottsdale is the model that would "PING" when it hit a golf ball. The center shafted face balanced design was quite popular in its day, and the sound it makes is quite loud. This putter is generally found with a bend in the shaft to create a slight offset and the stepdowns in the shaft are 3 inches apart. The sole was stamped "PING BY KARSTEN" "BOX 1345 SCOTTSDALE ARIZ. PAT. PEND." Also "1A" is stamped on the right center of the  "Torsion Sole". The putter has a U.S. Pat. No. 3,042,405 stamped on the extreme toe portion of the face ( opposite of the right-handed face ). It also was stamped Pat. Pending. on the sole.  This model is certainly one of the most sought after due to its history of being the putter behind the origination of the company's name. Note that the shaft (approx.  34.5")shows a “Tuned Ballnamic Ping Golf” shaftband – meaning that the club was made up during/after the company had moved to Phoenix. The grip shows the typical “Scottsdale melted-type collar wrap”. This model is certainly one of the most sought after due to its history of being the putter behind the origination of the company's name. Last valuation in 1999 – U$ 1600.-
