Mizuno JPX-900 Forged Individual Irons and Wedges The newest one-piece, forged cavity-back offering is Mizuno's JPX-900 Forged, an iron created from a Boron-infused 1025 carbon steel — JPX-850 Forged was made from the same carbon steel — that's 30 percent stronger than standard carbon steel. The material significantly thins out the multi-thickness face to generate a higher overall spring-like effect. The high-strength metal also removed an extra 21.5 grams from the CNC pocket cavity and 5 grams from the face during the milling process. The discretionary weight was then redistributed to protect ball speeds on off-center shots. Mizuno chose to keep the changes to a minimum with JPX-900 Forged, focusing on incremental adjustments like a slightly more compact head size in the shorter irons (8-GW) for precision and control.
