Vintage Restored Ray Cook M1-N 34" Putter with Leather Head Cover (head estimated - mid / late 1960s)there are seven photos. on display in the main frame, although they tend to hide in one eBay view format! Vintage putters were often made in their thousands and there were several thousand models. So I will refrain from using the standard eBay advertisers' term of 'rare' as such can be misleading, and I do know quite a lot about this putter and its designer:Ray Cook is of course the father of modern putter design and his most famous employee / pupil was Scotty Cameron. In the 1960s the top companies such as MacGregor, Nicklaus, Cook etc. wore a very different cloak to their modern counterparts - cloaks of genuine innovation and quality merchandise. Indeed Ray Cook's putters hold the unique boast of having won ALL four majors, and this model of putter won two of those.Whilst many golfers love playing with aluminium putters the fact remains that aluminium is a very soft alloy and is easily bruised via club chatter. As a result most of the RC early putters are worth little more than £10. as restoration costs are not cheap. What is?This putter arrived in my workshop in very tatty condition. Indeed both the shaft and grip had to be discarded. I sanded and polished the head. Indeed when I had finished it shone like a mirror and any photograph would have wrongly suggested a very tacky re-chroming job. Four light spray coats of 'Hycote' lacquer have changed the finish to 'satin.' The head still clearly shows polishing, but such is now on all fours with the club's original finish.The shaft has been replaced with a brand new stepped pattern 'Dynamic Gold' and a brand new Ray Cook blue short jumbo grip was sourced from Australia. The new leather RC head cover has come in from the USA.Finished to 34" USGA. So, what I offer is the unusual combination of a brand new shaft, grip, and head cover married to a 1960s restored head.
