Phil Mickelson was among those involved in developing the Sub Zero, which is arguably the lowest-spinning driver in golf. Callaway engineers report that Tour players who have been tested have seen their spin rates drop by 400-600 RPM using the Sub Zero, which is an incredibly high number for a driver. The reason this club delivers such low spin rates is that the CG has been moved below the neutral axis, making it the lowest center of gravity in any Callaway driver ever made. The club head has a smaller profile at 440cc and was designed to make it easier for players to control trajectory and ball flight. As one might guess, this driver won’t work for everyone, and, as such, it’s a limited-edition, custom-only product. It is solely available for right-handed players and comes only at 9.5 degrees of loft.High swing speed, high-spin, lower-handicap golfers. This simply isn’t a driver that’s going to work for a lot of people. Sure, trying a driver that was built specifically for Tour players sounds intriguing, but if you’re not swinging at least in the 110 MPH range with a driver and trying to bring your spin rates down, this product is likely going to be a bad fit, and its designers would tell you as much. That said, you don’t have to necessarily be scratch to play this club, but you better fit the aforementioned criteria to have any chance of the Sub Zero performing for you.
