Description

1963 Portland Open Invitational Golf Tournament Pro-Am winner's trophy and contestant's badge. This auction includes the 5 pound bronze trophy that was awarded to the winner of the Wednesday Pro-Am of the 1963 PGA Portland Open as well as a contestant's badge. Most PGA tournaments have a Pro-Am tournament on Wednesday. The pro's are required to play and the amateurs are comprised of tournament sponsors, local dignitaries etc...Jack Nicklaus won the Portland Open in 1962, 1964 and 1965. In 1963 George Knudsen won. Other pro's to win the Portland Open include Sam Snead in 1944, Ben Hogan in 1945 and Billy Casper in 1960 and 1961. I don't know who the Pro-Am winner was in 1963, however a Portland Open program from 1964 or later should list the Pro-Am winners from previous years. This tournament was held at Columbia Edgewater Golf Club through 1966.In 1962 Jack Nicklaus won the US Open for his first PGA win. In September he got his second PGA win in Seattle and the following week won his 3rd PGA tournament at the Portland Open. Arnie won 8 times in 1962, Jack won 3 times. In 1963 Arnie won 7 times (no majors) and Jack won 5 times including the Masters and the PGA. The rest is history. This trophy is a 5 pound (exactly 80 ounces) ashtray and measures 9 inches in diameter. The contestant's badge measures 1 3/4" in diameter. The trophy is in excellent condition with several spots of green oxidation. The badge is in outstanding condition. Email with any questions. Shipping is $14.95. Please check our other auctions.
