John Schlee was a PGA Touring Professional '66-'77 who nearly won the U.S. Open at Oakmont CC. That year Johnny Miller shot a final round 63 to edge him by a shot. He was reportly one of the few if not only protégés of the enigmatic Ben Hogan. Mr. Schlee was a bit of an eccentric himself. He was known to be quirky and a wild dresser in golf tournaments. He wore Hawaiian shirts and had peculiar movements that he would demonstrate during practice and play. After his playing career ended, he had a Golf School at The Indusrtry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry, California. He developed a training aid known as "the Secret" and was a pioneer in the development of the Long Putter. This putter is very rare. 90 percent of putters he made were Long Putters. This one is a standard length, standard weight putter. It also has an original Lamkin Leather Wrap grip. A great collector piece for putter aficionados, especially those who are Hogan admirers.
