Original 1984 Dave Pelz 3 Ball
Putter and Very Rare Dave Pelz
3 Ball Putter Prototype Copy.
Note the incredible practice value
of the narrow face prototype copy.
You can line the 3 balls up with
your ball and visualize the perfect
swing path along your target line.
Then you must make an accurate
stroke to meet the narrow face
square. This prototype copy
was deemed illegal for normal
play because the rules of golf
required that the face of a putter
be wider than the depth of a
putter from front to back. These putters are 35" in length
and have Winn Triple Line
PC LITE putter grips. Please note in a picture of the
prototype that I locked the
heal of the putter in a vise to
bend the neck in order to get
the putter face more square
to the line of the shaft. Thehands were to far ahead ofthe putter face. The bend was
very successful
and this putter now sits and
looks extremely square. The hands are now in line with the shaft and face. The
end result is that this prototype
copy looks better than the
original. I own many putters
so I know when a putter looks
and sits square. Also please
note in the last 2 pictures that
the length of the shaft points
to a normal point below the
equator of the plastic balls
on the long face putter and
the prototype copy shaft points
to a point above the equator of
the plastic balls. I actually like
that and wish more putters
set up that way. Please note that the face on
wide face putter is slightly
open in relation to the line of
the 3 balls. Again these putters
were a totally new concept so
the initial manufacturing was
not perfect. Also please note
that the plastic balls on the
legal putter have faded in
color. The prototype copy
maintains it's white color. The value in owning these
putters is two fold. First you
are getting a valuable piece
of golf history. Second and
hopefully more important,
you are getting a wonderful
and fun training putter that
will help you visualize the
path of putts and make
more consistent contact
with the sweet spot of the
putter.
