EXTREMELY RARE, NEVER USED, 12 PING EYE 2 BERYLLIUM COPPER IRONS, #1 through L Wedge. These irons were manufactured by Ping in March 1990. The irons still have the original Ping Diamond Grips made by Golf Pride and are BLACK DOT. These men's standard length irons have regular flex, ZZ lite shafts. These are among the last PING irons manufactured with Square Grooves, since Ping stopped producing square grooved clubs in April 1990. These irons are still factory wrapped just as they have been for 26 years. This set was originally purchased new by the current owner as a backup set and never put into play. All clubs except the #2 iron have a 723222A serial number on the hosel and Ping says they were manufactured on March 2, 1990; the #2 iron has a 605041A serial number and Ping confirms it was manufactured in November 1989. This museum quality set of Ping Irons is an important part of golf history and deserve to be prominently displayed in a golf club house, golf museum or golf professional's den. Ping Eye2 clubs like these have the once-illegal, non-conforming "box" square grooves and spacing that creates more spin than any other club ever made. This makes the Ping Eye2 clubs one of the best "GAME IMPROVEMENT CLUBS" ever made. The spin produced is truly legendary. The USGA tried to outlaw Ping Eye2 clubs with the non-conforming square grooves because of the advantage it created over all other irons, but Ping prevailed and the clubs produced from mid 1985 until April 1990 were grandfathered in for a number of years. However, no club manufacturer will ever be able to make the illegal square grooves again. So don't miss your change to own a piece of history and a truly remarkable set of irons. These are one of golf's all-time best selling irons and are still in high demand today. Extreme perimeter weighting helps forgive mis-hits and minimizes distance loss while the innovative sole design reduces turf contact for cleaner strikes. Ping Eye2 clubs are preferred by players from professionals to high-handicappers and copper is an ideal metal for players who rely on positive club head feedback to fine tune their shot-making abilities. Beryllium Copper irons provide an unmatched soft feel and are no longer available from Ping for environmental reasons. This is your incredible once in a lifetime opportunity to reach back in time and own an important part of golf history.I bought this set of clubs for my son as a back-up set in 1990 at a golf club pro shop.  They have remained in same box for 27 years and have never been used.  Furthermore, they have never been modified from their original Ping specs.
