From PING Customer Relations:  "The Kushin was introduced in late 1964 or early 1965. The 16 stamp is a weight stamp. Early on Karsten weighed the putters after grinding and tumbling using a water displacement method he came up with. The 16 does not refer to ounces or grams but is just an arbitrary number on his scale. He weighed the heads and marked them from lightest to heaviest. 16 would be on the heavy side. I believe sometime late in 1966 or maybe 1967 they stopped stamping the weight on the heads.  Because of the weight stamp I would guess that this putter was made sometime from late 1964 through 1966."Offered is a Classic for the collector or player, and by PING GOLF.  It is the KUSHIN SCOTTSDALE model right hand men's "Other Pat Pend" heel shafted putter and probably circa early 60's from what I have read in the Collector Guide relative to the Solheim patent #196,734 in the cavity.  Made in Karsten Solheim's garage, and like the original Scottsdale Anser's, there is the slot line cut into the sole to produce the effect of "floating face" between heel and toe weighting.  There is also a #16 stamped on the sole on this one, and very close to the toe, which was also done with the original Redwoods, so this is one of the earliest castings from the move to Scottsdale.  Fortunately, the former owner left the PING label on the grip depicting "Manganese Bronze" and "glare resistant" which also reads on the last line "Sold Only In Pro Shops Deluxe Models $20.00" and that dates the putter as well.  The original grip does show some cracking due to drying out, but is still playable, and checks out as the "Informer" Pistol Grip by Golf Pride with a hint of green left on the outline of the butt.  Cavity reads:  PING GOLF CLUBS, Box 1345 Scottsdale, Ariz., Other Pat Pend and is a bit rough due to casting, and that dates the putter as well.  The shaft is a "long step" shaft at 9-1/2" for the first step measured from insertion, and the rest of the steps are 3-1/4" long.  Excellent shaft label in tact and reads:  "TUNED BALLNAMIC PING GOLF CLUBS, Mfg. By Karsten Company, 10834 N. 21st Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85029" and like with the "Scottsdale" Anser's, 3 versions of this were made.  This is the one that is 1-1/4".  At address, it measures 35" on the flat stick.  The putter has been cleaned up so as to better see details, which really doesn't lower the value like removing the grip or shaft label would, because the rich patina will return in a short time through oxidation.  Condition of head and shaft is very good as seen in pics, and this is a rare find.  Finally; the sole stamping as was done with the Redwoods, the original Informer grip and  Manganese Bronze label, the excellent Ballnamic Shaft label, and the "more desired" 9-1/2" first long step TruTemper shaft are what makes this putter collectible.  If the others you view do NOT have what I have mentioned, then they are simply NOT worth the same price, as there were few made with the toe stamping on the sole.  As always, next day Priority Mail shipping.  Enjoy, and don't let this one pass you by!!NOTE:  Will ship internationally via the eBay Global Shipping program only, and only if the item is eligible.  Alaska and Hawaii are just a bit more than the referenced Priority Mail amount, and I will re-invoice you should you buy from that location.
