This listing is for an antique vintage hickory shaft right handed set of 11 MacGregor Duralite irons and a 3 club set of Duralite woods. MacGregor came up with an idea of matching, harmonizing and balancing irons in the late 1920's. It went beyond simply putting numbers on each iron in a set and changing the lofts. They figured out that they needed to change and balance head weights relative to length within the set. They came up with the "balanced" Duralite sets. The Duralites came with a star designation on the heads along with the stated length and weights. This is a one star matching set. This is a complete eleven (11) club one star set, 1,2,3,4,5,5X,6,7,8,9 iron and the 10 putter. MacGregor offered only 11 clubs in the Duralite iron sets and it is rare to find a complete set particularly with the same number of stars. The 8 Jigger alone is a very hard to find club. The stainless steel heads are in very good condition. They do have the expected minor play nicks and dings. Please look at the zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shafts are all the original marked hickories (some shaft stampings are fainter than others). They are surprisingly straight, crack free and tight at the hosels. The grips are the original long leather wraps that are also in good vintage condition. The shafts have been oiled and the grips have been waxed and whipped. MacGregor also offered Duralite woods with faux wood pyratone covered steel shafts to go with the set of irons. They never offered hickory shafted Duralite woods. This was actually quite common after steel shafts were legalized for play in the mid 1920's. The irons were hickory and the woods were faux wood. Included in this set are the three woods they offered, driver brassie and spoon. The Duralite woods have a black Mac-oid coating over the wooden heads. Mac-oid was simply MacGregor's name for their proprietary celluloid. MacGregor also used a Mac-oid coating on their highly collectible Master 30 woods. This fancy face wood set has the three different colored dots in the white faces which indicates which club is which. They also have matching colored butt caps. The heads are in very good condition. The yellow pyratone faux wood coating on the shafts is also in very good condition. Very few nicks or dings in the yellow covering. The grips are the original long leather wraps that have been waxed and whipped. One seller on eBay is offering a 3 club set of these woods alone for $999.99. Please look at the zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. Also included in this listing is an all leather full size collapsible bag made by A J Reach. These leather bags were very expensive in their day and still bring a good dollar on eBay. The strap and handle are intact and the stitching is in good condition. (Do not pick up these old bags by the handle or strap when filled with clubs as the handles and straps often break). The bag has a travel cover that folds inside the bag when not in use. The leather is a bit dry and could use a good leather conditioner. The only real fault I can find with the bag is that one of the zippers no longer works. Probably an easy fix for a shoe repair shop or someone else who works with leather and zippers. Please look at the zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. Also included are three new vintage matching leather and sateen head covers along with some old balls and tees. This would make a great display set for the executive golfer who thinks he has it all. You could even play with the irons if you so desired. Shipping for this item is via Priority Mail and based on a 20 pound box. The further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be.
